I am about half way round the Green Court when I hear a voice calling my name.
“Wilson!”
I turn to see, in the half darkness of evening, a School Monitor in his purple gown some 25 yards behind me.
“Come here!” the Monitor calls, and I walk quickly back towards him. It’s Hamilton, Captain of Walpole House and also Captain of the Cricket 1st Eleven and the school Fencing team..
“Why are you going round the Green Court the wrong way?”
I mumble something about the rain and darkness and wanting to get back to my house quickly.
“That’s no excuse, I’ll see you later. Now get back to your house, and go the right way!”
So, I was caught, as always seems to happen, and now I have to walk back the way I came and right round the other side of the Green Court.
I’m hells worried - what’s going to happen? Will he forget or let me off? Or am I in for a caning?
